It is summer in Ely, Minnesota. All of April and into early May all of the discussion in town was about when the ice would go off local lakes. Now, just a few weeks later, the ice is gone and a stretch of warm weather has people focused on swimming, fishing, and sunblock.
Our 81st Summer is Underway
Our 81st season is off to an absolutely wonderful start. The ice went off before fishing opener, and our early season anglers have been well rewarded. Guests are catching walleye in their typical early season haunts. The smallmouth and crappie spawn have those fish right up against the shore and ready for action. As is often the case early morning and late evening efforts are most successful, but even sleepy anglers are having luck.
The first few guests that ventured into the water could have been rewarded with membership in the Polar Bear Club. But, those warm temperatures have heated the water quickly. Now, floating in the water is a relaxing and cooling experience.
The Best Part of Summer
The best part of summer is always our guests. We share their excitement at the opportunity to spend time on Bear Island Lake in the north woods of Minnesota. It is always wonderful to see the smiles on their faces as they emerge from their cars, ready to relax, unwind, and explore. We love to listen to their stories, whether it is about changes in their lives over the past year or a unique experience on the water.
The people make this experience unique for us and we love the little community that gathers, reunites and grows each summer at Timber Wolf Lodge. We love the early summer energy and seeing our resort come alive.
The trees and plants waste no time coming alive for our short growing season. A week or so ago it felt like we could see individual leaves popping out. The greens of leaves and plants are so vibrant right now that it is almost breathtaking. Add the birds and spring frogs in the background for noise and it feels like a little piece of heaven. We’ve also had some amazing sunrises and sunsets and it’s hard not to just stop for a minute and take it all in.
We’re happy summer is here and we hope you join us soon.
