We love being part of the Ely Community. It is such a vibrant and welcoming small town in such a perfect part of the world. For the last 80 years, our guests have enjoyed the small town, the surrounding area and the unique vacation experience available here.
If you haven’t visited in awhile–whether it’s been two years or twenty–there is a lot you may have missed. Here are just a few of the new developments and businesses that have sprung up. This isn’t an inclusive list. There’s so much going on it would be impossible to make sure we hit everything. But, follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, because we love to share the latest happenings in the Ely area.
Historic State Theater
One of the most exciting developments is the renovation of the Historic State Theater and the adjoining buildings. This project will bring new businesses, new visitors and new energy to a central intersection in town. Many of our guests have shared memories about seeing movies here on a rainy evening, or dropping kids off when they needed a break. We look forward to its opening and a whole new generation of memories at this landmark.
Another exciting new project is the transformation of the old VFW building into Northern Grounds. This new hot spot features coffee, wine and craft beers. (They also have amazing baked goods.) The building was restored using archival photos and interviews with long-time local residents. They have run some really fun promotions including bottomless mimosa’s on Mother’s Day and numerous fundraisers for local charities.
Crapola World Headquarters
When guests with a sense of humor ask what they should get for a gift from a local shop, it’s hard not to suggest a bag of Crapola. This locally made granola is popular around the region, even being carried in numerous supermarket chains. The owners, Brian and Andrea Strom are everything you’d expect from small town business owners who name a food product Crapola. They started their business 10 years ago in their kitchen and recently moved into their “World Headquarters” in downtown Ely.
The Ely Area Veterans Memorial
Ely has a long tradition of military and community service. This summer a local committee finished a new memorial that honors veterans from all foreign wars. It is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the men and women who served and died for our country. The memorial is worth a stop for a moment of quiet reflection.
There is so much going on in Ely and we try to be involved as possible. We appreciate our new–and long-time partners–in making a vacation to Timber Wolf Lodge, and the Ely area, one never to be forgotten.
