Join the Folks in Ely Minnesota for The WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race

The Race:  A premier mid-distance sled dog race spanning 65 miles through northern Minnesota’s State Trail system.
The Mission:  To present an annual sled dog race, conducive to generating tourism and promoting education, that follows the spirit and proud history of the working sled dog in Northeastern Minnesota.

Participants:  Sixty (60) mushers, four-hundred (400) sled dogs from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota and Canada.

Volunteers:  Over Two-hundred (200) individuals dedicated to the safety of the sled dogs, the participants and our spectators.

Spectators:  Over one-thousand (1,000) winter sports enthusiasts from all over the U.S. and Canada.

This will be the eighth running of the WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race in Ely, MN. As in the past, they are expecting an exciting and entertaining race. The WolfTrack Classic is known for its scenic north woods terrain and unrelenting hills that test the mettle of mushers and dogs. Exciting developments this year have consolidated the race route between Ely and Tower, with more centralized action in Ely, MN.

On Saturday, February 27th, Come out and help kick off the 2016 Steger WolfTrack Classic Race weekend! The action will all start with vet checks for all our canine athletes. All the dog teams will be thoroughly checked out by our awesome vet team, before they hit the Trails Sunday morning. Vet checks will take place from 10AM till 3PM, in the Vermilion Community College parking lot. Hint–Bring your camera, there tends to be some great photo ops! Please be sure you also head in to town and visit some of our sponsors to say thank you! There is plenty of shopping, and even lunch to be had in wonderful downtown Ely. 

Starting at 4 PM, join us for social hour with the Mushers at our Lasagna dinner. This evening is always full of great conversations, wonderful food, good company, and plenty of stories! The Mushers dinner will once again be held at the Ely Senior Center. The evening will conclude with the 2016 Bib presentation. Come join us Sunday, February 28th, at the Ely softball fields. Help cheer our teams out of the starting chute. At exactly 9AM the teams will start hitting the trail for Tower.

You can catch all the action you desire. There is of course the start, then you could see the teams at road crossings as well. If you’re the more adventurous type you could head up to Bearhead State Park to watch the teams cross the lake. (Note: this does require a state park pass) Afterwards, head up to the Tower Civic Center to watch the 6-dog race finish. After you enjoy all Tower has to offer, head back to the Ely softball fields to cheer the 8-dog teams across the finish line! 

After all the teams have finished the race, we will then have our Awards Ceremony at The Boathouse Brew Pub in Ely. Be sure to stop by and join the party!
