- Fall in Love with Ely! The Bear facts are that this workshop will again have the wonderful Carlyn Iverson as our fearless leader and guide, and wildlife models from Minnesota Wildlife Connections! On location, a variety of animals - bear, wolves, fox and lynx - up-close and personal. These workshops are held in a very special setting, on the edge of the famed Boundary Waters Canoe Area, at the 75 acre private, comfortable, wilderness resort, Timber Wolf Lodge. The resort rests on the shores of Bear Island Lake, with her pristine waters and 23 rocky islands, surrounded by Superior National Forest.

            'Winter Wolves, Owls and Dogsledding'
The winter workshop has been a hit! Imagine a pack of wolves or a lynx, running across the frozen, snowy lake, with the rocky snow-covered islands and shoreline in the background! Simply amazing scenery and photo opps, for a limited group of photographers. Carlyn and Minnesota Wildlife Connections will be with us again, with their experience and professionalism and good humor, for an enjoyable, productive weekend. Yes, it's cold up here in January, but the cabins are warm, food and company will be warm, and you'll learn about shooting in cold weather!

A Mushers' View of the trailDogsledding adventures are so exciting! The Ely area & the BWCAW are especially beautiful & serene in the winter - mushing is the perfect way to explore this winter wonderland! For the adventurous who would like to try dogsledding, we offer an optional day trip into the Boundary Waters. A truly wondrous and exciting adventure, and great way to experience the BWCAW, mushing a team of dogs, silently through the woods and on the frozen lakes. About The Workshops and Our Area:
Howling WolfOur location, near Ely Minnesota, holds incredible photography opportunities year-round. We a have 75 acres of wooded forest on the shores of beautiful Bear Island Lake, surrounded by Superior National and Bear Island State Forests. Photographers and nature lovers have been delighted by the unique opportunities offered by these workshops. Join us for a great weekend in our wonderful location with a variety of wildlife models. Or plan a visit any time to explore the incredible wilderness of Northern Minnesota, and all the wonder and magnificence that this area has to offer!

These workshops feature wildlife models - black bear, lynx, raptors, wolves, cougar, eagles - are just some of the animals we've had here at different workshops. In the winter, the frozen shore and many small, rocky islands of Bear Island Lake make an ideal and magical winter wilderness setting - imagine a lynx against the winter birch and pine, or a pack of wolves running across the frozen lake, you and your camera ...

Spring and Fall bring the drama of the changing seasons. The Spring brings an incredible abundance of birds and wildlife, waking up, foraging and nesting. The stark landscape is contrasted with the emergence of new life. And in the fall, the crispness of the fallen leaves and the movement of the wildlife, seeking their winter destination.

Workshop size is limited to no more than 18 participants for a quality experience. Professional photographers, semiprofessional, hobbyists and novices alike will find value in these weekends. As much time as possible is spent outdoors shooting, with professional photographer Carlyn Iverson available for instruction and questions. Carlyn is a patient, experienced leader, skilled photographer, and her evening presentations are instructional and enjoyable!

We are thrilled to have Carlyn Iverson, professional wildlife photographer, artist & instructor, lead these workshops. Carlyn is a renowned photographer who has been presenting and leading photography classes and workshops for years. All of the images here are courtesy of Carlyn, except as noted. For additional information about Carlyn, please visit her website, Absolute Images.
