Timber Wolf Lodge
FAQ's

You're only 4 hours from the Twin Cities? I thought it was a lot more!
Honestly, we are about 230 miles, 4 or less hours from the Twin Cities. It's a great drive! Enough time to do some good thinking, but you don't need to pack a lunch! And close enough for a weekend getaway - come up after work - home Sunday afternoon!

What's a 'Housekeeping Cabin'
Your own cabin 'up north'! Housekeeping cabins typically have kitchens and are fully stocked with normal household items. Cabins here at Timber Wolf all have full kitchens, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes, glasses, utensils, all linens (except towels). TP is provided. What should you bring? See below!

In the Summer, Cabins are generally reserved for a week, Saturday to Saturday. We do have occasional cancellations, so be sure to give us a call to check on last-minute availability.

Do your cabins have running water, indoor plumbing, electricity & heat other than wood?
Yep, but that's a fair question - we are in the Northwoods, on the edge of the wilderness, and there are many cabins and some resorts that are pretty rustic, without even electricity ('off the grid'!). You can truly get away from it all here with us, but you have indoor plumbing and modern comforts!

Do your cabins include a boat and motor?
Spring and fall, yes, we include a boat and motor with weekly cabin visits, but not during the summer months. During the summer season, fishing boats are available for rent by the day or week. Our paddle boat is available at no charge, and also available for rent: Pontoon, Canoes and Kayaks.

Do you have a kids program?
Yes! During the summer, we have organized family programs and daily children's program, even a 'kids movie night'. The children's program is Monday - Friday, 2 hours a day. We do lots of different fun things - crafts, games, hikes - and learn about nature.

We want to go dogsledding!
Skiing!
Snowshoeing!
This is the place! Winter in the Northwoods is amazing! Ely is home to world class mushers and experienced guides that will take you on an adventure of a lifetime! Paul Schurke and Will Steger call Ely home, and Paul's 'Wintergreen Lodge' is one of the many fine winter outfitters.

Here at Timber Wolf, we groom over 5 miles of x-country ski trails! It's a bit of a secret, how fabulous the skiing is in our area. This means un-crowded trails. The past winters, we've had some of the best snow in the Midwest and we have lots of great trails.

And the showshoeing! Well, you can go forever! From you cabin door, or hike the many trails. We have snowshoes here and ski rentals are available in Ely. As are winter guides. Want to see the Pictographs in winter, but not sure how to get here? We know lots of great guides.

We want to go birding!
On a daytrip into the BWCAW, on a flightseeing trip of the area, biking or hiking. We might like a guide or need to rent equipment.
Again, this is the place! There are great guides available, just let us know and we'll arrange it for you. Or send you in the right direction - we have great resources, and lots of information here at the Lodge. And Ely is "outfitter heaven". And we have bike rentals as well.

What should We bring?
These are some of the typical items you might want to think about bringing. We do have grocery stores - and shopping on Saturday is a tradition for many! The shopping is Ely is great, so don't worry if you forget something or want to rent bikes or equipment here.
